Placed at the halfway point between the edge of the Peak District and the outskirts of its neighbour, Manchester, the town of Stockport has become a desirable place either to live or visit.
The first place to see if you want to get a feel for the local area is the Stockport Museum - located amid the Victorian splendour of Vernon Park, the museum showcases local people, industry and issues. As with Vernon Park, most of Stockport's green spaces are very scenic, well-tended and abundant - over half of the borough is comprised of green spaces.
Stockport's town centre has a whole host of interesting retail opportunities on offer, from the large-scale out-of-town shopping centres, to the specialist retailers that ply their trade from the maze of narrow medieval streets known as 'The Underbanks', to the colour and bustle of the open-air market.
